A few thoughts for the end of the week

As lawmakers raced to get home before a snow storm, they quickly passed a stopgap measure to avert a government shutdown.

The Senate passed the measure easily, 77 to 18 .

But House Republicans wanted to send the measure back to the Rules Committee and amend it with a border security measure that they passed seven months ago.
